Something for Wallpaper* magazine Handmade project. A lovely 2 days pretending you're still at infants school in the art room. Apart from the blood test angle. More of that coming up. In photos.

Re: Tired Of Life.
At least look at the hilarious but tender-hearted 'to camera' from. Mr. Bain Hogg. It cracks me up so much. A gutsy performance indeed.

Now's your chance to make this essential London book happen.
Finally Tired of London, Tired of Life, a cherished book project that is going to be available soon with your help.
A collaboration between artist Paul Davis and designer Henrietta Molinaro and Jocelyn Bain Hogg, this beautiful triparteid project is being crowd-funded on the emphas.is site.

This is, we feel, the essential London book and an antidote to all things Olympic and Jubilee.
Please have a look and go buy a copy, or check out the other lovely incentives to help get this wonderful thing out there.
And feel free to blog, facebook and tweet and pass this on to all your friends too.
Many thanks, we all love you.

CLOSING ON FRIDAY

Dear All,
show went well but there's a fair bit of refreshment left so I reckon it's a good idea have a dignified closing party for A Beautiful Pile-up on Friday at the gallery. Please come and peruse possibly the best drawings ever made in the history of drawing.

Details: The Coningsby Gallery, 30 Tottenham Street, London W1T 4AJ. T 020 7636 1064.

I love you all enormously.

A VERY SERIOUS GROUP OF DRAWINGS

Been quiet due to working on new show. Total concentration with far too many coffees.
Please look at this link. It shows a short film made with Ryuichi Sakamoto remembering the tragedy that befell Japan a little over a year ago that the world seems to have forgotten about. The Japanese people are incredible and will rebuild - you wait.

Brief Interlude

This story came to mind when I heard someone banging on about how boring Jury Service was; a dull traffic offender or somesuch.

Jury Service, Wood Green Crown Court, North London.

After two days of the worst defence I had ever witnessed, inlcuding the hapless lawyer in that fine Australian film 'The Castle', twelve tired people retired to the deliberation room to try to convince one posh man that the accused and his pregnant fifteen year old girlfriend were guilty of supplying a huge amount of  crack cocaine to distributors for a large profit. The evidence was way beyond suggestion: the Yardy dealt lots of crack. Pure and simple. The latex gloves, the criminal contacts, the forensic evidence, the, er, crack found on the premises...
But we couldn't convince this chap as he kept having abstract and irrational doubts. I thought he felt he couldn't deal with the power invested in him - possible a masochist at heart. I don't know.

The judge, an avuncular old sage, asked us for a 12 to 0 verdict.

Working class Bob, after two further days stuck in a stuffy room, littered with snack packaging and stained polystyrene cups got a bit tetchy after Posh Jamie said "I like so couldn't live with myself if I found him guilty? I'm like so not totally convinced?"
Bob shot me a dark and disappointed glance and said to Jamie's pale eyes "look, not only is he an obviously guilty crack dealer, all the evidence points that way, but what sticks in my craw is that he tried to rip punters off by selling lumps of wax as a crack substitute, the cheap bastard. Now that's bang out of order in my book."
Jamie, weakly: "yes, well, that is rather cheating, isn't it?"

12 - 0. Four years apiece. Well done Bob.

The words and C list Miami society pages portraits were gleaned from a property glossy found in a hotel lobby on South Beach. Very disturbing. Their minor royals. Obviously, the logo usage sets out to confuse. It's incredible how a marque can completely change the meaning. Put your finger over the logo and it's rather bland, I think.  I had a show with many of these and I convinced many attendees that they were real advertising campaigns which shows how far advanced Europe is in marketing and branding strategy; and how far big multi-nationals were prepared to go to seem to be cool.

Many Manhattan-based creative directors thought this astonishing, and sagely nodded as I told them this, unblinking, believing me, thinking America was too conservative within advertising.

Such beautiful idiocy.

This garbage bag holder was seen in Buenos Aires - they're about 2 to 3 feet off the ground so a wonderful idea to keep the rats away, plus they are everywhere and all slightly different: sculptures in their own right. Form and function and all that palaver.
Why don't we start using them?

I D K B I M S T D T O I C B A U H/008

O'Hare Airport a few years ago, two women chatting, one woman talking more.

I was sitting having possibly one too many beers due to the delayed United to New Orleans (Noo-Waughlins) and was listening (or snooping) on my immediate neighbours when, after what seemed like hours of sentimental offspring worship, the final withering statement which I'm sure was meant to destroy  the other woman's inner peace was the above.
I wrote it down and later wondered whether it should be a Ralph Lauren Kids or a Gap ad.
As you can see, I went for Armani Junior.

The Kin

This is the last one of a nonsensical yet selfishly requisite series of drawings and paintings as an attempt to make something rudely ravishing. I really don't know where they come from but I love to do them.

Next is a series of more drawings, some older, some new, entitled I Don't Know But It Makes Sense To Do Things Otherwise Insanity Could Be An Unwelcome Houseguest. From now on these will collectively be known as I D K B I M S T D T O I C B A U H.

Cocaine in the Church

This strangely Dalstonian story is apparently and allegedly true according to my neighbour. During midnight mass on Christmas Eve, two twitching ne'er-do-wells moved from the fairly empty pews up the front and close to the pious yet indecipherable priest and moved to the pews on the side down the back. My neighbour ("I'm a nosy cow") was curious and kept copping a glance at the quiet activity taking place behind her. She reported that the two men were hunched over making circular motions with their hands and then licking their fingers, smiling and nodding at each other. There followed the rustling sound of money changing hands. She caught a flash of a mirror as it was replaced in the pocket when they stood up and returned grinning madly to their original seats. No batted an eyelid. Recently the police had a bit of a try in controlling the business in dealer's flats in my street and it seemed to be successful after witnessing at least a dozen grimy folk being led out cuffed and shouting obscenities at the coppers. The rozzers gave as good as they got; the force have definitely moved on from the platitudes of Dixon of Dock Green even though, personally, I miss the politeness. In fact, I miss politeness everywhere but that's another blog.

You've got to hand it to the dealers' fortitude to use A House Of God to deal drugs but I feel I must inform the vicar of this disturbing news as he's such a nice man and it would be scandalous and tragic if he somehow was found in any way responsible - not his fault; drug dealers and addicts have an extraordinary iron-will when it comes to  supply and demand.

Trouble is, I can't stop laughing about it. It's a church for God's sake.
